Blinded by the Light

One of my favorite quotes is, “The heart has reasons that Reason knows nothing of.” (Blaise Pascal)

I could not begin to explain why I have fallen in love with that girl rather than this girl.  And my choices have been, alas, less than perfect.  But sometimes (the best of times, I like to think)…heart knows heart.

Once in awhile, in the fog of this sometimes dark and dreary world, a light appears, as if straight from Heaven.  You see someone.  Your eyes meet.  You could be at a party, in a train station, just passing on the street, or in a crowded elevator.  And in that moment, before you have ever even spoken aloud to each other, your hearts have poured forth volumes of words.  So much so that it hardly seems necessary to even say, “Hello”.  Or rather, saying “hello” is all that is necessary…you’ve already said everything else worth saying, without saying a word.  Click – and in an instant, your life is forever changed.

The magic of romance.  There’s nothing like it.  It’s a gift from God.  It’s obviously true that, “God is love”, because love is the most beautiful aspect of God’s Creation.  Isn’t love the very best thing to have?  To do?  To live?

I’ll end with another quote, this one a song lyric from the group Whitesnake –

“I’m just another heart in need of rescue,

 Waitin’ on love’s sweet charity,

 And I’m gonna hold on,

For the rest of my days,

‘Cause I know what it means,

To walk along the lonely street of dreams…”
